Lean into your genre obsession this weekend at Austin Film Society’s annual Doc Days festival. The arthouse cinema is hosting eleven documentaries from around the world, many of which feature post-screening Q&As with the filmmakers. Celebrate Memorial Day the Austin way

Kick off the good vibes on Friday with Cazayoux, who will be dishing out tunes with funky flavor for their album release party at. Then, spend Saturday night at Whitewater Music Amphitheater and take in an electric set by the city’s famous native sons, Spoon. Keep the energy going on Sunday as psychedelic dream-band, Annabelle Chairlegs, headlines at Hotel Vegas. If you’re feeling bold (and hungry), the East Austin venue is even hosting a pre-show hot dog eating contest. Finally, on Monday, close out the music marathon with a Lone Star legend, Dale Watson, as he shows off his trademark licks at equally legendary venue, The Continental Club.

This weekend, the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Austin Greek Festival is here to deliver all the great Aegan-adjacent grub that the city is normally lacking. In addition to the previously mentioned fan-favorite pita wrap, you can also dig into other traditional favorites like pasta-based pastitiso, the classic Greek salad known as horiatiki, and loukoumades, the Greek take on fried dough. 1000 E. 51st Street
It seems like every weekend in Bat City provides at least one local pop-up market for you to push the limits of your credit at. But, this Saturday, you can at least use the excuse of exploring an adored Austin area as justification for all those purchases. Spend the day at a plot outside the Beardbrand campus, where the North Loop Pop-Up Market will sprawl out the goods from 10 AM to 4 PM. And, since the event is being hosted by experts in all things thrift, Lonesome Wolf Vintage, you best believe that the stacks of treasures being offered up by a long list of vendors will make for a serious afternoon of browsing. In addition to drool-worthy vintage, there will also be booths selling original artwork, custom hats, and jewelry. And, after you practice self-care in the form of retail therapy, you can dig into various food and beverage offerings, as well as tunes provided by Tropicana Joe.
Cost: Free admission.

Good news for “indoor kids” everywhere: Your distaste for camping will no longer keep you from experiencing Texas’s beautiful state parks and preserves. Seek outdoor vacation salvation in the form of a tricked-out ride from luxury van rental company, Vanish. At the company’s newly opened Austin location, you can level up your nature game by taking out a “cabin on wheels” for a weekend (or longer). The van’s amenities, which include a queen-size bed, shower with hot water, toilet, kitchen, and cookware, will let you traverse the Lone Star terrain with finesse. And, since the roadsters are all pet-friendly, your best fur friend can even tag along for the trip.

May 26–29
Blanton Museum of Art
Austin’s wonderful museums are truly some of the most underrated gems in the entire city. This statement rings especially true when considering the recent renovations at local landmark art institute, the Blanton. This month, the stunning results of the museum’s two-year long makeover were finally unveiled to the public. Previous visitors will notice various updates upon walking through the Blanton’s doors, such as a new check-in entrance and a vibrant installation composed of multicolored threads. However, the biggest changes can be discovered outside the building itself. The updated grounds, which include an outdoor sound gallery, grassy patio complete with rocking chairs, and canopy of three story-tall “petal” sculptures, are perfect for a post-gallery hang.
Cost: Tickets for adults run $15 per person.
